Despite a slew of penalties and miscues, Phoenix Mountain Pointe was able to make big plays when it counted and stay undefeated as it knocked off Phoenix Desert Vista 27-13 on Friday night in a big 6A Conference matchup.

The game looked like it might get out of hand early when Mountain Pointe scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, including a 70-yard touchdown run that Antwaun Woodberry rattled off on just the third play.

In the second quarter, Desert Vista (2-4) was unable to capitalize with touchdowns during two separate trips in the red zone, instead having to settle for two field goals by kicker Riley Erickson. The first field goal was from 25 yards, and then after a Mountain Pointe fumble, Desert Vista recovered the ball but again was held to just three points.
